Part L Building Regulations
Changes to Part L Building Regulations
In June 2022, the UK government revised Part L Building Regulations, outlining that all new-build homes must produce 31% fewer CO2 emissions than was previously acceptable, while commercial buildings must produce 27% fewer.
This update was an interim step in preparation for the Future Homes Standard which outlined that all new-build homes and commercial buildings will have to be fitted with low carbon, low temperature and energy efficient heating by 2025.
Due to its lower operating temperature and greater energy efficiency, underfloor heating is perfectly suited to meet the requirements.
Why underfloor heating?
Under new regulations, the maximum flow temperature of heating systems must now be 55˚C in order to reduce carbon emissions. Underfloor heating typically runs at around 35˚C – 45˚C.
Also, underfloor heating can use 15-40% less energy than a conventional boiler and radiator system whilst still producing a consistent, effective heat, making it very energy efficient.
Plus, it can be used with both air-source and ground-source heat pumps which are known for their low temperature and energy efficiency.
